Abbey Sutherland
Head
Coach

Abbey Sutherland begins her second season as the head coach of the Golden Eagle volleyball program.
 
Last season, Sutherland guided Southern Miss to a 19-12 record and a fourth-place finish in Conference USA. Sutherland is one of only two first-year head coaches in volleyball to record a winning season at Southern Miss. She placed two players on the all-conference first team.
 
Prior to taking the head coaching job, Sutherland was an assistant coach for the past six seasons, including four as a full-time assistant. Her duties included on-the-floor coaching duties, recruiting, scouting and handling team travel.
 
Before becoming a full-time assistant, Sutherland served as a graduate assistant, while completing requirements for a master's degree in teaching languages, with a Spanish emphasis in 2006.
 
Prior to coming to Southern Miss, she was a standout setter at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis., where she was a four-year letterwinner. She completed her career with 4,554 assists, 1,503 digs and 128 aces. Sutherland was a three-time, first-team all-conference selection and a two-time conference player of the year. She twice received honorable-mention all-region honors.
 
Sutherland helped St. Norbert finish first in the Midwest Conference in 2002 and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She was voted her team's most valuable player as a junior and senior. She also received academic all-conference honors as well.
 
Sutherland prepped at West Bend High School in West Bend, Wis., where she was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball. She was a first-team all-county selection, second-team all-conference and honorable-mention all-state. She received the Coaches' and Hustle Awards. She played in the Wisconsin All-Star match and helped her team to three conference titles.
 
The West Bend, Wis., native received her bachelor's degree in Spanish and secondary education in 2004 from St. Norbert College.


Amanda Berkley
Assistant Coach

Amanda Berkley begins her second season with the Golden Eagle volleyball program. Her duties will include on the court coaching, recruiting, scouting, assistance in practice planning, fundraising, travel, camp coordinator and various administrative duties.
 
Prior to coming to Southern Miss, Berkley spent two seasons as UW-Whitewater's graduate assistant coach. She also coached the junior varsity team as well as planned practices and scheduled matches. Her duties also included being assistant strength and conditioning coach for volleyball, football and track teams.
 
Berkley graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in kinesiology/physical education and a minor in health. She competed on the University of Wisconsin's volleyball team as a defensive specialist. During her career, the Badgers placed second in the Big Ten twice and made it to the Elite Eight twice as well as finishing in the tournament Sweet 16 tournament once.
 
As a player, Berkley walked on as a freshman and earned a scholarship in 2005. She finished third on the team in service aces in 2006 and 2007. She has coached at various clinics and camps throughout the state and has coached club volleyball for Capital Volleyball Club.
 
Berkley attended Washington Park High School in Racine, Wis., where she played volleyball, basketball, and soccer. She was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball and soccer, while earning two letters in basketball.
 
The Racine, Wis., native earned her master's degree in professional development with and emphasis in health, physical education and coaching from UW-Whitewater in 2009. She is the daughter of Robert and Kathryn Berkley. Her sister, Susie Johnson, played volleyball at Idaho State and is now the head volleyball coach at UW-Milwaukee.


Lindsay Allman
Graduate Assistant

Lindsay Allman begins her third season with the Southern Miss volleyball staff after a standout career at the University of Maine.
 
Prior to coming to Southern Miss, Allman was a four-year letterwinner at Maine where she was an All-America East first team selection.
 
Allman played in 107 sets in 27 matches for the Black Bears as a senior, helping Maine win 10 more wins than in 2007 and advancing to play-offs since 2005. In addition to leading Maine, Allman was sixth in the conference in kills per set (3.08) and digs per set (3.20). She finished the season with 332 kills and 345 digs, her second consecutive season with 300 or more in kills and third straight season with over 300 digs. Allman also earned All-Rookie honors in 2005.
 
The St. Louis, Mo., native attended Rockwood Summit High School, earning MVP honors from her team four consecutive years. She also earned all-district honors.
 
Allman, the daughter of John and Tania Allman, received her bachlor's degree in mass communication.
